Tips For Golf - Tips for golfers

On golf courses the world over, golfers continue to play, look to improve, and try to find the elusive tips for golf that will hopefully unlock their golfing potential. Whether they’re planning on changing their swing, purchasing better golf clubs, changing their attire, or trying to improve on their fitness, all because they sense that they may have hit a plateau.

This same problem happened to me and probably every other golfer at one point in their life. I continued with my frustrations unbeknown for the several years until that is, I discovered one of the greatest tips for golf perhaps I have ever seen.

During these several dark golfing years I discovered that I could play well for the most part of 6 or 7 holes. But then I would hit one bad shot or miss one simple putt and my game just turned for the worse the rest of the round. My whole day of golf was knocked off track because of one simple mistake, and I could never get back a good rhythm going again. Several times I tried having a few beers at the 13th, my frustration disappeared but my game got worse.

After 10 years of golf I learned to realize that the mental game of golf is one of the most important aspects.

The numero uno of tips for golf that I came to learn was how to overcome the mental game of golf. I found that a good relaxation tape on golf was the way to solve this problem before a game. It taught me how to concentrate and completely focus on how to hit a good golf swing, especially after a really bad shot. Some of the techniques I used where focused techniques as well as tapes and various other methods.

The best mental tips for golf I can give you would be to fully concentrate on the shot you’re taking and never think about the shot you hit previously or the shot you’re going to hit next. Just focus on hitting the ball where you want it and let that be that.

Some more great tips for golf:

Short Game Tip

One major problem with beginner golfers is in their chipping. Whether you hit fat shots (hitting the ground before the ball), or you skull the ball over the green, there’s a great little drill that can help you. It’s known as the Flamingo Drill.

When chipping keep your weight shifted onto your front foot. Practice standing on your left foot with your right heel in the air behind you, just like a Flamingo would stand. This will help you obtain the feel of what it is like to hit shots with your weight firmly on your front foot and helps greatly with good chipping shots.

Putting Tip

A great tip for putting is the Bullseye trick Three-foot putts or more can really mess with your head if you let them. A really good golf putting tip to solve this is to imagine a bullseye attached to the back of the cup. This then encourages the player to accelerate the putter through to the hole and maintain the clubface’s movement square to the hole. This technique is used and recommended by one of the all time great putters, Seve Ballesteros.

Golf Swing Tip

One of the biggest mistakes people make in their golf swing is rushing their backswing. Some people think (consciously or not) that if they speed up their backswing, it will speed up their downswing and this will make them hit the ball farther. Nothing could be further from the truth. The speed of the backswing should be at a steady rate, not real fast or real slow. Most people tend to backswing too fast. Any time my golf swing begins to break down; the first correction is usually to slow down your backswing and relax and take your time.

For beginner golfers it’s important to always start off with a few golf lessons first of all with a professional golf instructor. You will then be able to build on a good basis of golf knowledge which will stand you in good stead for improving your game in the future.

Free Golf Tips (NEW!) - Golf is a cruel mistress: One day, you’re striking the ball well, sinking all your putts, and you leave the course walking on air, thinking you’ve finally worked out all the kinks in your game. The next day you return, and from the moment you tee off at the first hole, nothing goes right; you’re hitting into sand traps, three-putting again and again, and you’re pretty sure you’ll never want to go back. But you always do...

Golf Swing Tips - There's not a beginner out there who has had major problems getting the all important swing down to a science. (Well, OK, we've all seen those home movies of Tiger Woods when he was two years old and even though his golf clubs were a foot taller than he was, this little tyke could drive and putt as well as Jack Nicklaus.) Some of us are born with a perfect swing and the first time on the course it's obvious. For the record, the rest of us hate you all...

Golf Driving Instruction - Welcome to the no-nonsense approach to playing golf like a pro. Let us just hope that all those golf supply companies have not tricked you into buying that legendary golf ball or that magical golf swat yet. If that is the case, congratulations, you are on your way towards becoming a smart golfer...

Golf Slice Tips - It’s not nice to slice. When you slice, you lose balls, you lose your temper, and inevitably, in trying to cure your slice, you end up slicing even worse. Then you lose your mind. But there is a cure. Before you go nuts from your chronic slice, try focusing on these three simple swing thoughts...

Fed Ex Cup - An early vacation is no longer an option for many of the Professional Golfers’ Association’s top players. Golf’s new schedule in 2007 encourages the PGA Tour’s pros to compete to the very end of the season, rather than take a break after the last major (the PGA Championship) is played in early August. In years past, the PGA Championship was the last stop for many elite golfers until the season started again in earnest in January. Five more tournaments are usually scheduled after the PGA Championship. The PGA Championship, in the past, was a golfer’s last chance to gain exemption status for the Tour with a victory in that tournament. The advent of the FedEx Cup gives golfers additional opportunities to gain exempt status and establish themselves as the true elite of the game. The FedEx Cup encourages the players to stick around...

Golf Backswing - A best-case scenario evolved from a worst-case embarrassment on the golf course the other day. My horrendous play at the start of the round resulted in some valuable backswing tips from my playing partners. When we started, I executed my backswing on a drive, lifted my head to see where the ball would fly upon contact, and followed through as if I was swinging a baseball bat. The ball skipped on top of the grass like a hockey puck...

Putting Tips - Anyone can putt. It is the simplest form of golf. That’s why children can challenge their parents in a putt-putt game. How ever simple a putt might seem it still strikes fear into the most skilled golfers in the world. Long-time PGA Tour golfer Tom Lehman has endured a victory drought primarily because of his putting game. He has attempted to regain his putting touch by switching between the traditional putter and a long putter. The mind has played tricks on him, and when a golfer allows the mind to get in way, the results are undesirable...
